Stepathlon is ON!

♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ Wake up in the morning, feeling oh so peppy!

I got my pedometer clipped and am up already.

After I leave from the office I’ve got a treadmill to catch,

coz when I sleep for the night,

I’ve got 10,000 steps or more to match. ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬

Sing along the tunes of Kesha (with my twisted lyrics of course!) because Stepathlon is ON guys!

Monday blues on 10th September were redefined at the MakeMyTrip office, where it wasn’t the mood that was blue but the desks of our Trippers thanks to the blue Stepathlon kits that were waiting for everyone. With happy Trippers walking in enthusiasm, this Monday was surely unlike any other.

But what is Stepathlon, you wonder? Well, for the uninitiated, it is a global 100-day race with companies participating from around the world. It encourages a healthy lifestyle and adds a tinge of fun to it. And who gets to participates? Everybody! All Trippers have been divided in to teams of 5 and provided with a Stepathlon kit that includes a pedometer, a bag and a cap.

The fervour of Stepathlon had already begun even before the kits were distributed. A little birdie told us that enthusiastic Trippers had started preparing for it a week in advance. While some accelerated their work-out hours, others started taking the stairs instead of the elevators and enrolled themselves into activities like swimming, kick-boxing, jogging and bicycling to name a few. So now the common sightings around office include – Trippers carrying their blue Stepathlon bags, wearing caps, strapping on the pedometers and walking with a child-like excitement. Yes, folks are busy checking out each other’s pedometer ratings during meetings and silently competing while some are walking even when standing and you can figure the rest!

While most of us are all gung-ho about trying to walk as much as possible in the office and outside, there are also a few cheeky ones who have found tricks to increase the count without having to move a muscle. However, Stepathlon is not quite about winning but about introducing the idea of a healthy and active lifestyle. The event’s official website too reinforces the same idea by keeping a close check on your weight, waist and food intake. Excitement levels were so high that the website crashed with the exceeding number of participants logging in. Welcoming this overwhelming response, Stepathlon was re-scheduled to start afresh from 20th September in order to prevent any further technical glitches.

With THM just round the corner, walking is going to be even more exciting than ever. So Trippers… put on your best shoes because there’s lots to walk and a show to rock. See you in Agra!

Happy Birthday MakeMyTrip

Chaos – one which was designed, orchestrated and hoped for, one where there were no victims, only ecstatic, enthusiastic participants! I’m talking about none other than MakeMyTrip’s 7th anniversary bash.

MakeMyTrip India Operations completed seven successful years on September 6, 2012. Since then, not only have we become the market leaders in the travel segment but have also repeatedly become one of the best places to work.

Back to the celebrations…

The Mission – Celebrate and have fun

The Perpetrators –Trippers across India

The Masterminds – Human Resource Folks

The Weapons –A blow-horn, a birthday cap and a strong pair of lungs

08:30 hrs – The day started with Trippers finding a blow-horn and a birthday cap on their respective workstations. The ones with more experience in the art of mischief immediately put to good use both, the blow-horns and the caps. Others joined in when they heard the war cry of their comrades.

13:25 hrs – Lunch time – the time when the blow-horns were put to their maximum use!

16:15 hrs –Just when it looked like everyone had settled down and there was a hint of the storm passing, in came Ravi and Anuj – with big sturdy ropes in their hands. TUG OF WAR!

War it was as the teams fiercely competed against each other. Trippers cheered on and after an intense duel that saw Abhishek Mishra take a fall, the sturdier team won. Kudos and congrats to them!

17:00 hrs – Then came the moment that we’d all been waiting for since the morning – the cake! Two huge (and very delicious) cakes were brought to the party in each of the cafeterias. A sea of eager Trippers blowing their blow-horns cheered  Manish and Purva to cut the cake on the 4th floor while Deep did the honours on the ground floor cafeteria

17:30 hrs – As the day ended, the MakeMyTrip family had but one wish – may days like this keep coming for years and years; that we, the Trippers, shall always be ‘the Trippers’!

Mission Status – Successful

 Over and out!

The Awesomeness of August

As we welcomed the spurt of rainfall and jostled through the traffic to come to work, it was always bright and sunny inside the MakeMyTrip office! With celebrations and festivities doing the rounds, the awesomeness of August was colourful and sweet. Honouring the theme of the month, “Integrity”, Trippers celebrated Independence Day with great pomp and show. Not only was the Gurgaon office decorated with tricolour kites, patriotic Trippers were dressed in colours of saffron, white and green across the region.

Continuing with the festivities, Rakhi and Eid were next in line. Lady Trippers were all geared with fancy rakhis to make unsuspecting victims their official bhaiyas. Aside from a few sobs and heartbreaks, the day was a lot of fun. Eid brought with it delicious biryani and seviyaan. Trippers also collected Eidi for those less fortunate, which was distributed to children outside the Palam Vihar mosque.

Trippers celebrated Olympic fever and upheld the spirit of integrity and sportsmanship with a weekly Olympic quiz. Though not on the tracks, we gave each other good competition to claim the prizes.

Integrity is more than just a moral value at MakeMyTrip – it’s a way of life. Taking this thought forward, a lifestyle management session was conducted in association with Max Healthcare. The aim of was to spread awareness and encourage Trippers to work towards achieving a work-life balance.

August also saw eco-friendly Trippers participating in a tree plantation drive at the Aravalli Biodiversity Park in Gurgaon where almost a hundred saplings were planted.

As we bid adieu to August, there are hopes and excitement galore for September. There’s never a dull moment at MakeMyTrip. That’s for sure!

MakeMyTrip is a 'Great Place To Work'

We’ve done it again! MakeMyTrip was recognized as the 4th Best Place To Work by the Great Places To Work Institute (GPTW) and The Economic Times, 2012. For the third consecutive year, we are in the Top 4. Significantly, we have also been ranked as #1 in the Professional Services category.

Our achievement is considerable, keeping in view that there was participation from over 500 of the foremost MNCs, blue-chip Indian companies, and Navratna Public Sector organizations.

The GPTW survey consisted of a multi-level evaluation of the organization: two-thirds weightage was given to the score obtained from employee feedback on satisfaction levels, the balance was derived through an in-depth study of the workplace culture and Human Resources processes.

Take a bow, Trippers!
