MakeMyTrip is a 'Great Place To Work'

We’ve done it again! MakeMyTrip was recognized as the 4^th Best Place To Work by the Great Places To Work Institute (GPTW) and The Economic Times, 2012. For the third consecutive year, we are in the Top 4. Significantly, we have also been ranked as #1 in the Professional Services category.

Our achievement is considerable, keeping in view that there was participation from over 500 of the foremost MNCs, blue-chip Indian companies, and Navratna Public Sector organizations.

The GPTW survey consisted of a multi-level evaluation of the organization: two-thirds weightage was given to the score obtained from employee feedback on satisfaction levels, the balance was derived through an in-depth study of the workplace culture and Human Resources processes.

THM (Town Hall Meeting)

Work and fun are two crucial keywords at MakeMyTrip and we keep checking that they are used in chorus! That’s why among other things, we have our own hybrid Town Hall Meeting.

Town Hall Meeting, an annual event at MakeMyTrip, is something that excites every Tripper.  This event is as old as MakeMyTrip and is a part of our, umm… religion. This year’s Town Hall Meeting (we call it THM) was organised on 24^th August at our usual adda, Epicentre, Gurgaon.  Let’s see what happened ….

The stage was set. The flashlights and floodlights were on. In a crowd of urban professionals, many tribesmen, animals, plants and hunters could be spotted doing yabadabadoos! Wondering why? The dress theme for the new joiners was ‘Jungle’! And with the large family congregated, the show began!

Our Founder CEO, Deep Kalra started the event with words that few would want to miss! He rejoiced and congratulated the team on the NASDAQ listing and the Great Places To Work Award, which by the way, we won twice in a row! Deep KalraOther leaders shared our financial stand with performance of international & domestic holidays and flights (to be modest, we are getting grander each day!) and drew positive parallels between MakeMyTrip, Indian Cricket team and Anna Hazare!

THM is also a moment to reward star performers from various departments across 20 branches in India. The excitement during award distribution was several by no means usual! Poor emcee was struggling to be heard over the cheering and thunderous clapping (no exaggeration)!Awards & Rewards

The speaker for this year was Raman Roy, CEO of Quattro, a member of NASSCOM executive committee and the ‘Guru’ of Indian BPO industry. And as we found later, an enthralling orator! Raman’s wisdom on leadership and customer satisfaction packed with his sharp wits and energy, is something most B-schools students will give a thumb for (no exaggeration again)!Raman Roy

This was followed by another ‘pratha’ of THM, stage plays performed by new Trippers. Here’s a background: all new joiners (now Trippers) have to prepare and present an amusing stage play, obviously without compromising on work! Like each year, audience had some ‘Oh-I-fell-while-laughing’ performances plays! From a rambling Akbar and naughty Gabbar to a prudent Sr. Bachchan and comical Laaluji, everyone was present! Some new Trippers also plagued the audience with their ‘Sheela ki Jawani’ and ‘Dil to bachcha hai ji’ with just a lapel and Guitar.Putting on the Show!

Like any other perfect evening, this one too concluded with some mouth-watering snacks and beverages, of course company paid! But who said all good things come to an end? We’ll have all this fun again in 6 months. See you!

There’s a buzz in the office these days. MakeMyTrip just won the award for being the 2^nd best company in India to work for and holds the #1 position for professional services. This made me wonder…what is it about this place that makes me jump out of bed without hitting the snooze button each morning! 1. Fun & games: Our foosball and table tennis tables are where some of the best showdowns happen. A pizza party is the standard wager…if you’re feeling lucky, a Diet Coke could be a winning bonus!
2. Tiwariji: Who? Tiwariji is our trusted parking attendant. Without fail, he greets me with his toothy smile every morning before proceeding to depress me by pointing out all the new scratches on my car. He’s the reason why my mechanic sends me a Diwali card every year.
3. We don’t need to dress to impress: We believe in dressing down rather than dressing up. Case in point, Mukesh a.k.a. Mukri a.k.a. our Senior VP, Technology, whose claim to fame is being a apparel minimalist. Shorts, jeans, tshirts…that’s MakeMyTrip dressing.
4. Get outta here: We literally do! Any chance we get, we hit the river. Rafting is our preferred indulgence and our offsites are infamous. Seriously folks, having so much fun really couldn’t possibly be legal!
5. Foodies Inc.: From our chaatwaala to the guy that makes authentic, hill-station type masala Maggi, like all things Indian, we love food any time, any where, any kind, any amount…
